A City Trip to Madrid

By Unknown - 15:28:00

Hey guys!

First of all I wanted to let you all know that I'm graduated! After seven years of high school I'm finally done and now I have my Gymnasium diploma. I can't wait to go to university next year to study Psychology!

Today I'm sharing my favourite photos I've made during my city trip to Madrid. After my final exams I went with a friend to this really cool city. I had a great time and I've seen a lot in five days (I've also seen a lot of stores as you could have seen in my haul ;)).

Rotterdam The Hague Airport, May 31st 2015, the Travel Essentials. ;)

I'd definitely recommend going to Madrid. You won't find that many tourists here as in Barcelona, which I think is a positive thing. You can enjoy the city like a local. It's also a pretty cheap city because of the few tourists, for example a bottle of Smirnoff Vodka was only €7 in the supermarket and a 2L bottle Pepsi was only €1. The weather in Madrid is really good, the last day it was 33 degrees (Celsius) so we stayed at the apartment because we had a swimming pool. During nighttime the temperature is perfect for going out, not too hot and not too cold, and that's probably why the nightlife of Madrid is so vibrant.

Gran Via, May 31st 2015.

I'm really happy with how this photo turned out, I think it looks pretty rad haha.

Plaza de La Puerta del Sol, May 31st 2015.

This square is one of the busiest places in Madrid. You can find stores like Topshop here and also many bars and clubs.

Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, June 1st 2015.

The second day we visited the first art museum we wanted to see. Visiting a museum is a perfect thing to do when it's too hot to walk around the city. My friend and I both love art so we already planned going here. I really wanted to go to Reina Sofia because I like modern art a lot and I wanted to see Picasso's Guernica. It wasn't allowed to make pictures of the Guernica, but I've made some pictures of some other cool art pieces.

My friend made this picture, I think it looks really cool.

From the roof of the museum you have a nice view over the area around Reina Sofia.

Plaza de Cibeles, June 2nd 2015.

On this picture you see the Cybele Palace. It's one of the famous monuments of Madrid.

Museo del Prado, June 2nd 2015.

The next day we went to the other museum we wanted to visit, Museo del Prado. This museum is the main national art museum of Spain and it has a huge collection of European art through the centuries. The collection concludes art works of great artists like Goya and Rubens. If you want to visit a museum in Madrid and like art, I'd definitely recommend going to Museo del Prado.

Mercado de San Miguel, June 3rd 2015.

At Mercado de San Miguel you can find lots and lots of different food and drinks. If you're Dutch, it's like the Markthal in Rotterdam en the Foodhallen in Amsterdam. The only thing I didn't like was that there are not enough tables and chairs, so you have to eat your food somewhere else outside the market.

Of course I have to share some of the food I ate. These lamb chops and burger were so delicious, woah.

I think it's a thing in Madrid/Spain to serve chips with many dishes. In Holland you would get fries or potatoes but here they give you chips every time. I didn't mind it though, it tasted good with everything!

Of course we've drunk a lot of Sangria. ;)

We also went a night out (actually two but we only drank cocktails one night). We went to this club called Joy and it was so crowded but it was such a cool club. One warning: the entry and drinks of most clubs in Madrid are expensive. We paid €18 for entry and €10(!!!) for a glass of white wine. And I thought going out in Holland was expensiv... Not anymore haha!

I hope you liked this post and my photos. Madrid is definitely one of my new favourite cities!
There will be two more posts coming up about my two favourite places to go to in Madrid, so stay tuned!

Have you ever been to Madrid? What do you think of this city?

x Sherilynn
