Art in Amsterdam

By Unknown - 16:26:00

Hey guys! Last week I went to Amsterdam with Art class to visit two museums: the Rijksmuseum and the Stedelijk Museum. The Rijksmuseum is the most famous museum in Holland and that's why you'll find lots of tourists there. If you like to see art of the biggest Dutch painters, like Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Vermeer, you definitely should go to the Rijksmuseum. If you prefer modern art, like me, the Stedelijk Museum is the place to be.
I'd never been to both museums before so I was excited to finally go and see them.

First, we went to the Rijksmuseum. The building itself is already impressive, it's a combination of different styles, eclectic.

We started with the Gallery of Honour. This is an extended corridor which leads to the most famous painting of the Rijksmuseum: the Nachtwacht by Rembrandt (Night Watch). At the Gallery of Honour you can find the masterpieces of the seventeenth century by the great Dutch artists like Vermeer, Rembrandt and Steen.
After the Gallery of Honour we went to the Library, which was huge and so beautiful. Unfortunately we weren't allowed to take photographs...

Next we went to the eighthteenth and nineteenth century, where you can find pieces from the Romantic Age and Vincent Van Gogh.

I really like this painting, because of the combination of blue and purple. It looks so pretty.

We also had some time to discover the Rijksmuseum by ourselves. I went to the 3rd floor where pieces of CoBrA, Mondriaan and Yves Saint Laurent were shown.

I love how art and fashion are combined in this dress by Yves Saint Laurent.

I love Mondriaan's art a lot because of its minimalism.

Around 2 PM we went to the Stedelijk Museum which is close to the Rijksmuseum. I was really excited about this museum because I love modern art a lot.

'If Mondriaan would have finished the Victory Boogie Woogie it would look like this.' A woman got really mad because of this copy of one of Mondriaan's most famous paintings...

'Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue' I sat ten minutes staring at this work and I felt so peaceful and so relaxed. It is so simple but I love it a lot. Most people will not consider this as art though.

Some more pieces I really liked, especially because of the black and white. I'd love to have a painting like this in my room.

I hope you liked this post! I had a great day and saw some great pieces of art.
Do you like to visit art museums? Do you prefer modern art or art from the Golden age?
